2022 Grand Cherokee vs Ford Edge

With SUVs being the most popular vehicle in the country, it only stands to reason that there are several makes and models out there to choose from. Two of the best out there right now are the 2022 Jeep Grand Cherokee and the Ford Edge, as they both come with high-powered engine options, tons of available features, and some of the best-looking interiors ever created. While we think that there is no wrong choice between these two premium SUVs, one has a distinct advantage over the other. To find out which one our experts believe you should be driving home, continue reading our comparison down below!

2022 Jeep Grand Cherokee Power & Handling

There are three engine options available for the Grand Cherokee, and a tremendous amount of power is available. The standard engine is a 3.6-liter V6 that pumps out an incredible 293 horsepower and 260 lb-ft of torque. More power is derived from the optional 5.7-liter V8 that kicks out an awe-inspiring 357 horsepower and 390 lb-ft of torque. You can get this engine for the Trailhawk, Overland, and Summit trims. The final engine is an optional 2.0-liter four-cylinder plug-in hybrid available for every trim outside of the Laredo. It gives you 375 horsepower and 470 lb-ft of torque. Jeep refers to this engine as the 4xe. All of these engines pair with an eight-speed automatic transmission, and those who decide on the V6 will get rear-wheel-drive with the option for four-wheel-drive. Four-wheel-drive is standard on the V8 and 4xe.

2022 Ford Edge Power & Handling

The Ford Edge tries to counter the Grand Cherokee with a couple of engine options, but unfortunately, there is no plug-in hybrid. The standard option is a 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder that pumps out a solid 250 horsepower and 280 lb-ft of torque which pairs with an eight-speed automatic transmission. Those who want more power will need to opt for the higher ST trim, which has a 2.7-liter turbocharged V6 that kicks out a solid 335 horsepower and 380 lb-ft of torque which pairs with a seven-speed automatic transmission. These engines come with an all-wheel-drive system. While we love the power of these engines, we wish there was a hybrid option.

2022 Jeep Grand Cherokee Features & Design

With the 2022 Grand Cherokee, you not only get powerful engine options but five trims levels that are loaded with features. The base trim is the Laredo which comes standard with 17-inch wheels, LED headlights, heated mirrors, roof rails, keyless entry and ignition, dual-zone climate control, and an 8.4-inch touchscreen with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. You also get several safety features, including adaptive cruise control, lane-keeping assist, blind-spot monitoring, and forward collision mitigation. But wait, that’s not all! The Laredo also comes with several option packages, including the Lux Tech Group, which has automatic wipers, a remote start, a power liftgate, heated rear seats, and a wireless charging pad. Next is the Limited trim, which comes standard with LED foglights, driver’s seat memory settings, leather upholstery, and heated rear seats. Off-road fans are sure to love the Trailhawk, which comes with all-terrain tires, adaptive air suspension, hill ascent and descent control, front tow hooks, and an electronic disconnecting stabilizer bar. Higher trims double down on the luxury and tech with features like upgraded leather upholstery, a panoramic sunroof, ambient cabin lighting, a hands-free liftgate, front cross-traffic alert, and four-zone automatic climate control.

2022 Ford Edge Features & Design

Five trim levels are also available for the Ford Edge, and there are some exciting features to be found here. You get features like18-inch wheels, LED headlights, dual-zone climate control, keyless entry, push-button start, and a 12-inch touchscreen with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto on the base SE. With the SE, you have the option of a Black Appearance Package which gets you 19-inch gloss black wheels and black badges. The next trim is the SEL, which adds to the SE with simulated leather upholstery, heated front seats, and Ford’s SecuriCode entry keypad. Want your Edge to have a more sporty feel. Then you’re going to have to get one of the higher trims like the ST-Line, as it comes with black exterior trim with lower and front and rear fascias, 20-inch gloss black wheels, red accent exterior stitching, and ActiveX faux leather seats. The top two trims are the Titanium and the ST, which round things out with features like a hands-free liftgate, rain-sensing windshield wipers, remote engine start, leather upholstery, and a sport suspension. There is a lot to love about these features, but the Grand Cherokee is more impressive!

Conclusion:

While the Ford Edge puts up a good fight, it can’t compete with what the Grand Cherokee has to offer! The Grand Cherokee has the more impressive engine options, including a hybrid option, and far more exciting features than the Edge has. Are you ready to take a test drive of the Grand Cherokee?
