One of the best ways to get out and enjoy the beauty of nature is to take your vehicle out for an off-road adventure! Off-roading is a great way to bond with your friends, family, and fellow drivers, and it’s the perfect addition to any hiking or camping trip. However, if you want to tackle the most challenging terrain, you need a vehicle that’s up for the task! Luckily, the Jeep heritage brand specializes in just that type of vehicle, and there are some great options to choose from. Read on to learn more about off-roading here in Texas!

Jeep Wrangler Rubicon

You can’t talk about off-road vehicles without mentioning the legendary Jeep Wrangler! The Wrangler is the quintessential off-road SUV, especially when you opt for the Rubicon trim. The Wrangler has a sporty design, with a removable roof and doors that let you take in the open air. The Rubicon also has tons of features to help you navigate rough trails with ease. It offers the Rock-Trac 4X4 system, which offers you up to a 100:1 crawl ratio, perfect for rock crawling, or driving up steep inclines. For even more traction, the Rubicon comes with all-terrain tires, ad locking front and rear differentials. It also has a disconnecting front sway bar to provide better front-wheel articulation. When properly equipped, the Wrangler can tow up to 3,500 pounds, and ford up to 33.1 inches of water!

Jeep Grand Cherokee 4xe Trailhawk

Are you looking for an SUV that’s a little more spacious, but can still take on the trails? If so, then the Grand Cherokee 4xe is the perfect choice! The 4xe lineup offers the Trailhawk trim, which is the most athletic Grand Cherokee model you could ask for. Not only that, but it comes with an innovative hybrid powertrain that helps you save money on gas! The Trailhawk is equipped with a bold design, which includes blue front tow hooks, all-terrain tires, and a black hood decal. It offers features like the Quadra-Lift Air Suspension System for increased ground clearance, and up to 24 inches of water fording. The Grand Cherokee 4xe can also tow up to 6,000 pounds when properly equipped, and has other sporty features like 4-wheel drive, Selec-Terrain Traction Management, and hill-descent control.

Top Off-Road Trails in Texas

Texas is home to Big Bend National Park, which is a crowd favorite when it comes to off-roading! Within the park, you can find a huge network of trails, including options for various skill levels. If you’re just starting out, consider trying the Old Maverick OHV Route. This beginner trail is roughly 13 miles long, and has a starting point near the entrance to Big Bend National Park, making it easy to find. Along the way, you’ll see stunning views of rock formations and wide-open space, and maybe even some mountain goats! If you’re looking for something a bit more advanced, consider the Glen Spring OHV Trail. This trail has a steady incline, and spans about 25 miles. The terrain is rockier, and you may even encounter some water-fording depending on recent rainfall. However, you’ll also find flat areas that offer a reprieve from the climb, as well as more of the magnificent views of Big Bend Park.

Off-Road Etiquette and Tips

You can create lifelong memories out on the trails, but it’s important to be safe and respectful so that everyone has a good time! It’s a good idea to always off-road with a buddy, whether they’re in your vehicle with you, or better yet, in a second vehicle so that you can tow each other out of sticky spots, or go for help if needed. You should also always have some form of wireless communication device such as a radio, so that you can contact people off-trail even when there’s no cell phone service. Be sure to travel with a first-aid kit, and bring proper gear for the weather, including sunscreen and plenty of water. You may even want to opt for a helmet or other protective gear, especially if you’re driving through a rocky or mountainous area. With a little bit of precaution, you can focus on having a blast out on the trail!
